Asking New Questions
Today auto maker BMW released a video of its latest concept car, the “BMW GINA Light Visionary Model”. It’s a very cool looking car but I was more impressed with the questions asked by Chris Bangle, BMW’s Director of Design…
“What do we need the skin of a car for?”
“What’s it there for?”
“Does it have to be made of out metal?”
“Do we have to make it always in the same manner?”
“Or is it there for different purposes than we thought?”
They started by asking new questions and discovered new ideas, new ways of thinking and a new philosophy: “Being flexible, thinking flexible, acting flexible - context over dogma, that’s it.”
Wow, as a pastor I can’t help but apply this concept to ministry and ask new questions of my own…
“What is our skin and do we need it? Why is it there? Does it always have to be made of the same old stuff and made in the same old way? Has the dogma of “we always did it this way before” blinded me to the context of life around me? Is there indeed a different purpose to all of this? Hmmm…
I’m asking new questions this morning and I’m starting to see old things in new ways. How about you?

Way Cool on all kinds of levels!
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the most interesting things I've seen. I love - being flexible - context over dogma.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the saying, "blessed are the flexible for they will not SNAP."
Great thought. I think God is speaking this to many in the body of Christ.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the video. Wow, what a cool car...I wonder if they make this in a great big 4WD pickup!!
